Ingredients

  • For the crust
  • 3 cups bread flour

  • ¼ ounce dry yeast

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon sugar

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1 cup warm water

  • For the topping
  • 4 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese

  • 1 garlic clove, minced

  • 1 tablespoon fresh basil, chopped

  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste

  • ½ cup tomato puree

Directions

  • In a mixing bowl, gently combine yeast, sugar and water. Stir to dissolve the yeast and set the mixture aside for 15 minutes.
  • Stir in 1 cup flour, add salt, and then stir in another cup of flour. Transfer the mixture to a kneading board and add in last cup of flour. Knead well until the dough is soft and elastic. Form dough into a ball.
  • In another bowl, pour in the 1 tbsp olive oil and spread around. Place the dough in bowl. Coat it with oil, cover the bowl with a damp towel and let it rise for 40 minutes.
  • Transfer the dough to a flat surface, punch down and knead on board about 2 minutes.
  • To make the crust, spray the pizza pan with some olive oil or vegetable oil. Spread in the dough.
  • To make the topping, combine pureed tomatoes, tomato paste, minced garlic, and basil in a bowl and stir well. Spread the mixture onto the pizza dough.
  • Top with sliced mozzarella cheese and bake at 500°F for 11-13 minutes.
  • Once cooked, remove from the oven, slice and serve immediately. Cover the leftover tightly and store in the refrigerator. Reheat as you prefer. Baked pizza slices can be frozen up to 3 months.

Notes

  • It’s worth mentioning that you can top the pizza crust with some types of cheese at a time or your favorite type. In addition, you may also add in other ingredients like ham, bacon, sausage, sliced mushroom, and chopped onion, green pepper and tomato.
