The recipe for pizza cheese crust is certainly popular with those who are a big fan of homemade pizza crust and those who prefer doubling the grease of cheeses in pizza.

Ingredients

  • For the crust
  • 2 to 2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1/4 ounce quick-rise yeast

  • 8 pieces string cheese

  • 2 tablespoons canola oil

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup water

  • For the topping
  • 1-1/2 cups shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese

  • 1/2 pound bulk Italian sausage

  • 1 jar (4-1/2 ounces) sliced mushrooms, drained

  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

  • 1 medium green pepper, diced

  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 cup tomato sauce

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 425º F.
  • In a large bowl, gently combine 2 cups flour, yeast and salt. Add a cup of water (120°-130°) to bowl; stir and mix well until the mixture becomes dough-like. Set aside for 5 minutes.
  • Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface, punch down and knead on board about 2 minutes. Roll dough into a 14-in. circle.
  • In a 12-in. pizza pan, add in some olive oil or vegetable oil and spray. Place in crust dough and let it drape 2- in. over the edge.
  • Place string cheese around edge of pan; fold dough over cheese and pinch to seal. Prick dough thoroughly with a fork. Bake at 425° for 10 minutes.
  • Heat up some oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Add in sausage and green pepper, sauté until tender (8 minutes).
  • In a small bowl, mix together tomato sauce, oregano, pepper and garlic powder; spread over crust.
  • Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese and cooked sausage and pepper.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until cheese is melted and crust is golden brown.
  • Once cooked, remove pizza from the oven, slice and serve immediately.
